Utility Expert

A better energy tariff, explained properly at your door.

Most households never switch, and a good number are paying more than they need to on a tariff they were moved onto by default. Utility Expert visits homes across the UK on behalf of energy suppliers, works out what you're paying now, and tells you plainly whether there's something better available.

It takes about ten minutes, it costs you nothing, and the answer is sometimes that you're already on a good deal.

What we do

We are a field sales and customer acquisition business. Energy suppliers appoint us to reach households that comparison sites and call centres don't — people who don't shop around online, and who would rather have something explained face to face than read it in an email.

For households

A clear comparison of your current tariff against what's available, done at your kitchen door in a few minutes, with no charge and no obligation to take anything.

For suppliers

A trained, employed, badged field team working to a written code of conduct, with every sale verified by the supplier before it counts.

What we're not

We are not an energy supplier, and we're not from your current one. We don't bill you, we don't touch your meter, and we can't switch you ourselves.

What customers say

Asked in a short feedback survey we send to customers after a visit from one of our representatives. Published unedited.

Everything he said at the door matched what the supplier said on the phone, and matched the paperwork when it came through.

Rep was polite and explained things clearly at the door. Took about ten minutes and I’m paying less than I was.

The young lad who came to the door was very professional, showed me his ID badge straight away and explained everything. Ended up saving a bit of money as well!

Liked that it cost nothing and there was no obligation. Ended up staying with my current supplier, no hassle either way.

Great service, everything was clear and easy to understand.

Lovely chap called Charlie came to the door, helped me get a good deal. The girl on the phone was really friendly and made sure I was happy with everything before I went ahead.

Friendly guy at the door, showed me his badge and they helped me get a good deal.

Got a good deal after speaking to the guy on the phone, didn’t feel pressured at all. Good service.

I don’t normally do things at the door, but the bloke who came round seemed legit and I ended up saving a good bit of money. Happy I went for it.

Hadn’t heard of the company before but the guy at the door was polite and professional.

How it works

From the knock to the new tariff, here is every step, so nothing turns up later as a surprise.

  1. We call at your door

Our representative introduces themselves, shows their ID, and says which supplier they're working on behalf of. If it's a bad time, or you're not interested, that's the end of it.

  2. We look at what you pay now

Your supplier, tariff, payment method and roughly what you use — most of it is on a recent bill or in your supplier's app. From that we can tell you whether there's a better tariff for your circumstances.

  3. You speak to the supplier

If you want to go ahead, you talk to an adviser at the supplier or its authorised call centre, either there and then or at a time that suits you. They confirm the price, the term and the terms.

  4. The contract is yours and theirs

Any agreement is between you and the energy supplier — not with Utility Expert. They send you the full written terms and a welcome pack.

  5. You get fourteen days to change your mind

A 14-day cooling-off period applies from the day you agree. Cancel inside it for any reason at no cost, with no interruption to your supply.

How our people work

Everyone who knocks on a door for us is trained, badged and works to a written code of conduct. We audit against it, and a single serious breach removes someone from the field.

Our representatives always

  • Show a photo ID badge and say which supplier they're calling on behalf of.
  • Speak only to the person named on the energy account.
  • Give you the figures for your own usage, not a headline saving.
  • Leave straight away, without argument, when asked.
  • Call between 9am and 8pm, Monday to Saturday.
  • Respect a "no cold callers" sign and walk past.

Our representatives never

  • Claim to be from your existing supplier, a regulator or the government.
  • Ask for cash, card details, a PIN or online banking credentials.
  • Ask to come inside to read a meter or check a boiler.
  • Complete a switch at the door, or rush a decision.
  • Suggest an offer disappears if you don't decide now.
  • Take details from a child or from anyone who isn't the account holder.

Had a visit from us?

Everything you need if someone has already called, or if you'd rather we didn't.

  • An expiry date that hasn't passed

Email the name and number to checkid@utilityexpert.uk and we'll confirm it the same working day.

About us

Utility Expert is the field sales arm of The Interactive Team Ltd, a UK business that has worked in energy customer acquisition since 2013. We run inbound and outbound campaigns for major UK suppliers, and Utility Expert is the team that does it in person.

Our representatives are recruited, trained and managed by us. They are not self-employed door-knockers hired by the week, and they don't work to a script that survives contact with a real kitchen doorway.
